It's all in the batteries June 20, 2008 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
This is actually a very good camera contrary to the other reviews, especially for its price. The problem is batteries - you can't use just any battery with this camera. Regular alkalines and cheaper rechargeables will not do the trick. Sony 2500 mAh AA Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, 4-pack should be sufficient. When I was using alkalines the camera would freeze when open, as others have said, and suddenly drop to low battery when the battery isn't really low. The problem is regular batteries don't have enough kick for this camera so it will show that the battery is full until it actually tries to use some power. The manual itself states that 2500 mAh batteries are suggested, although it should say they are *required*, on the front of the box, in big bold letters.
As for the camera itself, it may not be a professional's camera, but it would definitely work for the common family. Max image res is 3072x2304. It can take 640x480 video at a good framerate, but you'll definitely want a rather high capacity SD card if you wish to do that regularly. There's an abundance of modes and settings to play with.
Great camera, especially for the price (worth twice as much), but don't forget good batteries and an SD card.
very good little camera January 7, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Good solid camera. Soft key feature is nice and actually easy to use. Pocket size with solid metal case. Takes very clear photos. I see no down side for the averge user. Has to be one of the best buys avaailable.
Read all the feedback, followed advice and very happy! August 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I read a lot of feedback about this camera and was nervous. I followed the advice of getting a big memory card and good rechargeable batteries and i have to say that I am very happy with this camera...so far. Good buy for the price indeed. Has a lot of very nice features. I would definitely recommend.
Great Camera for Grandchildren May 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This camera takes good pictures and is easy enough for children to operate successfully. My five-year-old granddaughter is thrilled with it. I got a 1G memory disc so she could take all she wanted. The biggest reason I chose this model is the fun features it has (the S630 has them, too). I have bought 4 S630 Samsungs and 3 S730 Samsungs (two black and this pink one) for 7 of my 8 grandchildren--the eighth is only a year old. These models have built into the camera itself a variety of fun frames to put on photos, "stickers" to decorate them, baloons to make cartoons, special effects, etc. that gives them creative fun with their digital photos without having to transfer them to the computer first. They really enjoy experimenting and having fun with their photos, and the results can be saved to the computer &/or printed just as the regular plain photos can. This is a neat camera for anyone, even children, to enjoy. You do need good batteries or those that are rechargeable.
Slow to save photos; otherwise, GREAT! August 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was so sad when I dropped this in the sand and ruined it. I've had this camera for about 7 months, and despite the slow saving time, I really love it. I use rechargeable batteries, and they hold enough charge for almost 100 photos. The pictures have turned out really fantastic, both for portraits and landscape. I haven't tried any of the settings.
